Freak injury

Sean Longstaff will not feature for Newcastle against Liverpool tomorrow.

That’s according to Toon boss Steve Bruce, who described the midfielder’s injury as a “freak” incident.

“It’s one of those awful ones. He goes to stop a cross and gets his ankle caught. It’s one of those freak ones that unfortunately happen,” Bruce said.

“You come off the pitch and we’re all disappointed. We’ve lost a player to a freak accident, but that’s what happens in football. Sometimes, you miss out.”

Ryan Kent: Liverpool lied

Rangers winger Ryan Kent has accused Liverpool of lying to him during his summer transfer to Rangers.

Kent, 22, was told by Jurgen Klopp that he was surplus to requirements at Anfield – but his eventual move to Rangers stalled and nearly didn’t happen.

Something that left Kent extremely frustrated.

“It was very tough,” Kent told a press conference. “I had to stay mentally strong. “When you are told you can do one thing and then you are lied to and it doesn’t happen, that is quite hard to take.”

Alisson aiming for Man Utd

Liverpool believe Alisson will return for the Manchester United fixture at Old Trafford.

The Reds are scheduled to play Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side at Old Trafford on October 20 – and they could have their injured Brazilian between the sticks.

Alisson, 26, has been sidelined with a calf injury for a month but has resumed light training.

And Klopp is optimistic Alisson will return after the next international break.

“The target was always after the next international break [that] he could be ready, but we don’t know,” Klopp said.

PSG in for Kai Havertz

PSG have joined the battle to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz.

Yesterday it was reported that the 20-year-old prodigy was set to choose between Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

But Transfermarketweb claim the French champions are now involved.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool were reportedly interested in the £91million-rated star – but SportBILD made no mention of the Premier League club.
