Barcelona refuse to concede Neymar defeat as club chief reveals PSG transfer plan | Football | Sport

Barcelona missed out on signing Neymar this summer after failing to reach an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain but according to one club chief they will not be giving up.

Barcelona director Javier Bordas recently told Spanish news agency EFE that as long as Neymar wants to return to the Catalan giants, the club will try and work out a deal with the Ligue 1 champions.

“While he wants to come, we will do what we can to bring him back,” Bordas said.

And while Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeur recently said the club would not try and sign the player during the January transfer window, Bordas didn’t rule out an approach happening in the next window.

“What happens will happen,” Bordas added.

“Everything is constantly changing in football, but Neymar is Neymar.”

Neymar left Barca in a record-breaking €222million (£200m) move to PSG in 2017, but after spending just two years in France, the 27-year-old has now been heavily linked with a return to Spain.

Negotiations have taken place between Barca and PSG for the winger but a transfer could not be agreed as Barcelona could not meet PSG’s demands.

Several different types of deals had been rumoured to have been on the table, including a large up-front cash deal, multiple player-swap deals and even the transfer being paid in instalments over several seasons.

Neymar has struggled with injuries during his time at PSG and last season he only managed to make 28 appearances, although the Brazilian did still score 23 goals and create 13 assists during those game.

However, Bordas believes Neymar made a mistake joining PSG.

“The case of Neymar is a special one,” he added.

“He’s an exceptional player and he wants to come to Barcelona; he hasn’t adapted to Paris.

“He was wrong to go there, and even he has said that.”

And Barca legend Lionel Messi has also broken his silence over Neymar’s transfer saga.

The Agrentine admitted he isn’t sure if the club did “everything possible” during talks but would have liked to have been reunited with his former team-mate.

“I would have loved that Neymar came,” Messi told Spanish publication Sport.

“Honestly, I don’t know if Barça did everything possible for his return but it is true that negotiating with the PSG is not easy.”
