Arsenal boss Unai Emery reveals when Kieran Tierney and Hector Bellerin will be available | Football | Sport

Arsenal defenders Kieran Tierney and Hector Bellerin are almost ready for first-team action.

Gunners boss Unai Emery revealed on Friday that the full-backs have been training this week, but will needed more time to be considered for Premier League action.

Tierney arrived from Celtic with a groin injury last month after going through double hernia surgery at the end of last season.

Bellerin has been out since January with a knee injury, but he is now close to a return.

Emery said: “We need to look at the next steps in each training and also if we decide to play with U23s.

“They did this week the first time training normally with us.

“We want the next week to take the normality training with us.

“After that week we can decide.”

In more positive injury news for Arsenal fans, Emery has revealed that both Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira are ready to play with Rob Holding also in contention.

Emery added: “[Holding] earned matches with U23s.

“With more minutes with U23s he can be closer to give us his performance.

“At the moment we are working with three centre-backs, thinking on Sunday, now four. Rob is now the five, [Konstantinos] Mavropanos the sixth.”

Another player that could feature against watford on Sunday is Mesut Ozil, with his former team-mate Per Mertesacker urging him to “step up”.

“Yeah, and he needs to [step up]. There’s no doubt about that,” Mertesacker told talkSPORT.

“He needs to play at this best, when he is a leader on the field because of his actions with the football, because of this magic touch no one has in the squad.

“No one has that in the squad and we really need that.”
